I developed a Diversity
Proposal to make recommendations for a special event to be hosted by the Towson
University College of Education during the Spring 2004 semester to recognize
the 50th anniversary of the important historical event, Brown vs.
Board of Education.
I
I included the following elements in the proposal:
- Type
of Event (Be
creative! Guest speaker, fundraiser for charitable organization, dance,
picnic, artistic exhibit. Be specific.)
- Rationale
for recommendation (Why
are you recommending this type of event? How is it connected to Brown
vs. Board of Education?)
- Intended
audience (Is
the event intended for the University Faculty and Students? Local
community?)
- Location
(Where?)
- Cost
(How
much? How will the funds be allocated?)
- Other
(Include
other important information.)

Diversity Proposal: Dancing Our Way to Integration |
|
|
|
Type
of Event: A Dance Performance displaying schools at
the
beginning of the 1950's and every decade through the present
year. The dances will have students and teachers from Middle
Schools, High Schools and Colleges in the Baltimore, Washington,
D.C. Metropolitan Areas. The propr will display segregation and
how it slowly diminished to integration in schools.
Rationale for Recommendation:
This type of event is good for the display of Brown v. Board of
Education because it can teach all audiences of all ages of what
the case did to the school systems all over the United States.
This will help people to understand the significance of the case
in times back then and the significance of it in present times.
I also proposed this because my topis is Technology in Dance
Education for my research paper. This would be a great way to
display how dance can educate students and adults alike.
Intended Audience: Students of all ages
and adults ( whomever would like to be educated on the Brown v.
Board of educations' impact on todays' schools)
Where?-The Kennedy Center
Cost-$5.00 for students, $7.00 for
adults, and $3.00 for children and babies
The funds will be allocated through the schools participating.
They can fundraise or do whatever it takes to help to raise the
money needed to put on the performance. With a community effort
things wil be much easier, and money will not be an issue.
Other Information: In between dances there will either be an
narration of whats going on or a poem recited to set the scene
for the next dance. Poetry can be written by the students that
attend those certain schools that are participating in the
program. One poem from each school wil be slected to be read
during the performance before the dance from their particular
school is performed! |
