Maryland Teacher Technology Standards

Outcomes Indicators

I. Information Access, Evaluation, Processing and Application

Candidates will:

A. Access, evaluate, and process information efficiently and effectively

  • Identify, locate, retrieve, and differentiate among a variety of electronic sources of information using technology.
  • Evaluate information critically and competently for a specific purpose
  • Organize, categorize, and store information for efficient retrieval.
B. Apply information accurately and appropriately
  • Apply information accurately to a situation that solves a problem or answers a question

 

II. Communication

Candidates will:

A. Use technologies effectively and appropriately to communicate information in variety of formals.

  • Select appropriate technologies for a particular communication goal.
  • Use productivity tools to communicate information
  • Use multimedia tools to communicate information.
  • Exchange  information, communication, and interact electronically in an acceptable manner.
  • Use telecommunication tools to publish information on-line.

III. Legal, Social and Ethical Issues

Candidates will:

A. Demonstrate an understanding of the legal, social, and ethical issues related to technology use.

  • Define and describe examples of unethical and illegal behavior in a technology environment.
  • Analyze advantages and disadvantages of widespread use and reliance on technology in schools, workplace, society as a whole.
  • Establish classroom policies and procedures that ensure compliance with copyright law, fair use guidelines, security and child online protection.
  • Identify classroom procedures to insure a safe and healthy environment for students using technology.

IV. Assessment for Administration and Instruction

Candidates will:

A. Use Information technologies to analyze problems and develop solutions.

  • Research, collect, process and analyze data and report results for instructional school planning.

V. Integrating Technology into the Curriculum and instruction

Candidates will:

A. Design, implement, and assess learning experiences that incorporate technology in the delivery of a curriculum-related instructional activity.

  • Assess students' learning/instructional  needs  to identify the appropriate technology to meet those  needs.
  • Evaluate technology materials and media to determine their most appropriate instructional use.
  • Select and apply best practices for integrating technology into instructions.
  • Use technology tools appropriate to the discipline and the student's ability level.
  • Apply a variety of instructional strategies in the use of technology in the classroom.
B. Design, implement and assess learning experiences that incorporate student use of technology to support inquiry, problem solving, communication, and/or collaboration.
  • Assess student's learning/instructional needs to identify the appropriate technology to meet those needs.
  • Evaluate technology materials and media to determine their most appropriate instructional use.
  • Use technology tools appropriate to the discipline.
  • Apply a variety of instructional strategies in the use of technology in the classroom.
  • Develop a scoring tool (s) for measuring students attainment of outcomes and student technology products (when appropriate).

VI. Assistive Technology

Candidates will:

A. Understand human, equity, and developmental  issues surrounding the use of assistive technology to enhance student learning performance and apply that understanding to practice.

  • Identify and analyze assistive technology resources that accommodate individual student learning needs.
  • Apply assistive technology to the instructional process and evaluate its impact on learners with diverse backgrounds, characteristics and abilities.

VII. Professional Growth

Candidates will:

A. Analyze the use of emerging technologies to improve teaching and learning.

 

  • Identify sources for information on emerging technologies and their uses.
  • Evaluate the efficacy of emerging technologies to teaching and learning.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of key issues in emerging technologies and education.

 

B. Develop habits of mind that support continual learning and professional growth in technology.
  • Identify and use resources and materials to support professional growth in the use of technology.
  • Participate in professional organizations and groups that support the field of educational computing and technology.
  • Identify local, state, and national standards and use them to improve teaching and learning.
