Two advances that have occurred in technology since the 1970s are microcomputers and the World Wide Web. In 1977 the first microcomputers were placed in schools. This technology allowed teachers to instruct their students in a more hands on interactive way.  Microcomputers were the beginning of computers becoming a major educating tool.  The second advance that had a significant effect on education is the introduction of the World Wide Web (WWW).  The World Wide Web was the beginning of the search engines that are used daily in the classroom.

One emerging trend in technology is that everything seems to becoming portable.  Whether it is laptops, hard drives, or handheld computers; technology is becoming an everyday necessity.  This emerging trend of making things compact and portable only makes it easier for teachers and students to familiarize and become comfortable with computer devices.
