Teacher Surveys

Two Baltimore County teachers were asked to respond
to the following questions in an e-mail.  Below are their responses.

A sixth grade Social Studies teacher in Baltimore County
was asked about the technology used in her classroom by the students and teacher.

1.    What technology in your classroom is used by teachers?

I use a LCD projector with powerpoint on a daily basis. I will occasionally use www.brainpop.com along with some other educational websites. Other than that, I use the overhead, and movies.

2.    What technology in your classroom is used by students?

Students have used laptops in my room. They also interact using my powerpoints. Students also use the computer for research projects and presentations.

3.    What are some advantages of the technology in your classroom?

It provides a way to engage students. Students are completely captivated by technology, and it is an interesting outlet for them to use.

4.    What are some disadvantages of the technology in your classroom?

It can be distracting, to you and the students.

5.    Is there anything else about technology in your classroom that you would like to add?

I wish there were enough computers so kids could work in my room, without me having to get our mobile lab every time. I also think smart boards for every room would be awesome, so kids have some real interaction!

An eighth grade Science teacher in Baltimore County
was asked about the technology used in her classroom by the students and teacher.

1.    What technology in your classroom is used by teachers?

I use technology daily in my classroom.  Drills are on power point which is shown using a projector.  I use the internet to help provide extra engagements like “BrainPop” and Safari Montage to get video clips to help supplement concepts I am trying to teach.  I also use a blue tooth interwrite tablet.  My class is a lab science and so I use data mate software and labpro equipment to collect temperature, detect motion, create graphs, etc. We also use the computer lab to aid in project research.

2.    What technology in your classroom is used by students?

Students use the lab equipment, interwrite tablets (occasionally) and Library computer lab.

3.    What are some advantages of the technology in your classroom?

Technology helps to keep students engaged in the lesson.

4.    What are some disadvantages of the technology in your classroom?

There is not always enough equipment for all student because of costs.  Some technology is difficult to use in a large classroom setting.
