Many assistive technology
devices may be useful in my school. Such as
Electronic pointing devices which are used to
control the cursor on the screen without using hands.
Another Assistive Technology tool is a Trackball,
a movable ball on top of a base that can be used to
move the cursor on screen. Lastly, Touch screens
allow for the direct selection or activation of the
computer by touching the screen. They are either built
into the computer monitor or can be added onto a computer
monitor. |

I can test to
see if a website is accessible to people with disabilities

http://webxact.watchfire.com. Additionally, I know that
websites ending in .org, .edu and .gov are typically very
informative and reliable websites. |

What is Universal
Design?
What are the principles
of Universal Design (UD Principles)? |
Center for Universal Design:
http://www.design.ncsu.edu/cud/ |
Universal
Design originally began to help people with
disabilities. However, as it has expanded, Universal Design
helps people with many backgrounds on a daily basis. For
example, a ramp leading into a building as well as stairs.
The ramp would help someone in a wheelchair as well as
someone who has a cart of supplies to take into the
building. |
|
Provide examples for some of the principles. |
Principles and T.
Ryan’s brief reflections on each:
http://pages.towson.edu/pryan/at/universaldesign.htm |
Some examples
for the principles are buttons on doors for handicapped
people, ramps for wheelchairs and room for a wheelchair to
navigate through. |
