Description: In this lesson students learn about overlapping. Student create rocks and sand by tearing textured paper. Students review visual texture vs. real texture. Students use the flash fish tank game to practice overlapping before applying it to their watercolor backgrounds.

Description: Students are taught atmospheric perspective by learning about overlapping, foreground, middleground, and background. Students create the background for their space art. Students experiment with flicking white paint to create stars. After creating stars students learn about space dust. Using chalk pastels students blend colors and create space dust in their background.

LESSON PLAN 3: FALLING OBJECTS
GRADES 9 - 12

Description: Students are taught about the art element of space by using observational drawing skills and size change. Students sketch several different views of an object in their sketchbooks then transfer the drawings onto their final paper using different sizes to show space. After completing the sketches, students finish the piece with colored pencil.
