Anyone will tell you that being in a
crowd of 300 people is completely different from being in a crowd of
6,000 yelling and head banging fans. Take those 6,000 metal heads and
put them all in one of the most famous theaters in America and there
you have the greatest concert of all time: the 20th Anniversary
Dream Theater show at Radio City Music Hall in New York. No opening
bands, just an extended set of the band responsible for bringing me to
the metal faith.
Their set contained a chronicled
history of Dream Theater all the way back to the band that came before
Dream Theater: Majesty. After the short break, Dream Theater surprised
the fans by bringing out a full orchestra to play along with the band
to a myriad of songs. The most memorable song was the finale featuring
"Octavarium" being played along with a cartoon animation of the song.
Seeing James LaBrie as a cartoon made my night. The experience was
amazing and night I'll never forget.
