Research Process Directions to Students
Scenario

Congratulations Mr. & Mrs. Thompson have decided to take you on and hire you as their landscape contractor based upon your professional portfolio.  They want only plants native to their Maryland Region. You are responsible for providing the Thompson's with a list of strictly native landscape plants that would be of use to them and designing a landscape drawing with the named plants for their backyard.  Remember they need trees, shrubs and flowers that are suitable for full sun, partial sun/shade as well as plants for full shade.

What is a native plant?

Task and Product

The first part of your assignment will be searching the internet for suitable plants to be used in the Thompson's landscape.  You will be searching to find a minimum four native trees, eight native shrubs and ten native flowers.  See the Native Plants Rubric in the assessment section for further details.

The second part of your project is to create a landscape design that will be sold to the Thompson's.  You will use all of the prior knowledge that you have gained in the past year about creating landscape designs as well as any new information you may find in your quest for native plants.  See the Landscape Design Critique Rubric in the assessment section for more details.
