Dental Health

Finding a dentist that is right for you is extremely important. While I'm pretty sure not many people look forward to going to the dentist office for a checkup or a procedure, you should at least be able to tolerate it and enjoy the people that are providing that service for you. ZocDoc is a great way to find a New York dentist if that is the area you live in. You can type in what you are looking for, for example "Brooklyn dentist" or even "dentist in Bronx" and it will bring up the dentists in the area that you selected and what healthcare providers that office accepts.

For example, when I type in the Brooklyn dentist, it comes up with 34 different dentists for me to choose from in that area. Then I can narrow it down even further by typing in what insurance plan I have and what I need done (a filling, regular cleaning or even emergency dental surgery). This way is the most efficient and I can find which dentists near me accept my insurance plan and can provide me with the service I need. The best part is that you can go ahead and make an appointment right then and there online. It is so easy and you know exactly what you are getting.

My favorite part is that you can look into the specific dentists on the website itself. You can click on that dentist and it will show you what health care providers they accept, where they went to school, what languages they speak, what areas they specialize in and other general information about them. Then it also shows the upcoming dates that they have open appointments and where they are located. On some of the doctor's profiles they even have reviews by people who have used this website and gone to that dentist and how their experience was.

This website is great and overall it is very convenient for patients. It is important to have a dentist that can fulfill all of your needs and when you can go online to a website and type in the information and specifics that you are looking for in a dentist and they will find one for you, it is amazing. It is a time saver and extremely helpful and very stress relieving. It is such a pain in the butt to have to call around and ask questions and be put on hold all of the time. This way you have all of the information at the tip of your finger.

NEW MMA GEAR FOR MY FIGHT NEXT MONTH

I have a big fight coming up next month and my parents have offered to get me some new mma gear for the fight. I am really looking forward to getting some new gear and I have been online and found a few sites that want a lot of money for their stuff. I know that I can get a better price, so I have been shopping around. I know that my parents offered to pay for the stuff, but I don't want to see them overpay and I know there have to be some good discount places to get mma gear. I found the pair of fight shorts I want, they are snake skin fight shorts and I found a great pair of professional fighting gloves. I have been into martial arts for years, but I have only recently gotten into mixed martial arts, and this will be my first real fight and I want to look and feel professional. I think that it will really help me to get into the right mind set for the fight.

Most people don't realize how difficult mma fighting really is. They think that it looks pretty simple, however being in the right mind frame for the fight is just as important if not more important than the actual physical training for the event. I have to spend a lot of time preparing mentally for a fight and I have gone up against some of the best guys at my training gym, and so far I have been able to beat all of them. This makes it seem real that I can actually win the fight next month, but I have to stay focused. Losing your focus during a match can cost you big, and if you aren't careful, you can get really hurt.

I know that my parents worry about me getting seriously injured, but I don't believe that will happen. In spite of their fears, they have always been there to cheer me on, and I do appreciate their support. I know that all the preparation I have done will help me and so will having some new fight shorts and gloves. I am all ready to go into this fight to win, the waiting is the hardest part now.

Match point network

Match point network is a company that helps people to expand their franchise networks. It teaches them how franchising works, the business structure of franchising and if you have what it takes to get involved with this process. It also gives you information about how to buy a franchise (finding the right one for you and evaluating how the economy is working toward your advantage). Above all, match point network helps you with the details of franchising that a lot of other companies may tend to over look. These details include: how to attract and keep your customers, referral and loyalty marketing and building up your brand. They also work within your team helping with goal setting, leadership, helping to set a standard and an image for your team to shoot for and portray. And finally, once you get your business started it helps you to continue on and grow to you and your company's advantage.

There doesn't really sound like a better company to me. Match point network takes you from beginning to end and helps you turn yourself and business into a success. They have all of the resources that you need to make the best of your franchising experience.

I have always been a big believer in the phrase, “it's all about who you know”. I really do think that not necessarily only who you already know, but who you reach out to helps you to succeed. You have to be willing to ask for help and research in depth the task at hand. If you learn everything possible about and find people that have already gone through this and will help you on your journey. By reaching out you can really help your business succeed.

Networking is something that we have always been taught. I went to a high school where college prep was basically all we did. We learned how to interview and take tests and get involved. But the most important thing that I learned was to reach out to people and network. Some day we will have to find jobs and when we do hopefully we have networked enough to know someone who can get us in. We are all going to be qualified grade wise and have gone above and beyond so it really does come down to who you know and finding someone to get you into the program and help you out.

Franchises becoming more popular

Franchises have always been a mystery to me. Obviously I go to fast food restaurants and shopping malls, but I have never really thought about what goes on behind the scenes. Then one day at a family party my aunts sister told us that her and her husband and looking into buying a Subway franchise. I seriously didn't know that people could even buy subways or stores or restaurants like that. Like the dunkin donuts, I thought they were like family owned or something, I had no idea that anyone could buy them.

What surprised me the most was how easy they made it seem. As long as you had the money to do it, the rest really was pretty easy to figure out. They had these classes already set out for them and they just had to follow a check list of things to do before they could actually be in charge. It was like just a training period where they had to pass a math test and go to different kinds of classes and then the subway was theirs.

A few months later my friend and previous roommate from freshman and sophomore year was telling me about how her family bought a subway as well. While my aunts sister got rid of it (I'm not exactly sure what happens or what happens with your money) other people were buying them like crazy. It made me really wonder what was so great about that particular franchise or if a lot of different franchises were this hot right now and I just hadn't heard anything about them. I just don't know what makes someone wake up one day and say to themselves, I want a subway. I feel like the classes and the pre-made check list gives you the easy way out. If I were to own a business I would want to go through all of the hard work and fun to make it my own and to really feel accomplished. I probably wouldn't want to take something that was already created and just do that, but apparently that is really the thing to do right now, so maybe in 20 years when I have money (hopefully) I will change my mind and want to do that (well hopefully it won't still be subway), but something along those lines. Sometimes I feel like people buy things like franchises just because they feel like that is the next step and they have the money so they should do it.

Natural Diet pills better?

I have always wondered if a natural diet pill is better for you. The only difference that I have found by looking up both diet pills and natural diet pills is that natural ones do not contain any harmful substances and they say that there are no side effects to take them. They contain no chemicals and are 100% natural ingredient. It also says that they are safe to take even if you are taking other medications and will no effect or lessen the results of any medication you are currently taking at the same time.

The thing that I like the most about the information that I have found bout the natural diet pills and that they focus more on you as a whole and talk about making a weight loss plan instead of just depending on the pills to lose the weight for you. Weight loss and diet pills are definitely a great supplement to a good diet and proper exercise routine, but they are certainly not a replacement for these things. They also stress the fact that you should consult your doctor before taking those pills or any other pill. I like advertisements that are truthful and straight forward with you. This particular ad is for a natural diet pill but also tells you that the diet pill isn't magic and that you do need to take the proper steps for it to be effective. Other diet pills should be advertising the same way because the same thing is true for all of them. A company that tells me the truth is one that I am more likely to buy from. This particular one is telling me to consult a doctor to make sure that it is okay for me to be taking that pill and also that I need to have a plan to go with the supplement. To diet and exercise properly and that the pill will work.

Diet pills have always been something I have looked at with caution, but more and more information has come out about them so I now view them more safe and like something that I am willing to try. With such positive information out there I really do think that I can find a diet pill that will work for me and with the research I have done about the natural diet pills I think that may just be the way to go.

TRYING OUT A DEDICATED SERVER

Struggling with my internet server had become a way of life, long connection times and losing connection in the middle of doing something was a regular issue that I had just become accustomed to. Then one weekend I was staying with a friend and I asked him if I could use his computer. He said sure, so I got onto the internet and began researching and found that not only did his computer stay online the whole time, but his connection speed was like lightning compared to my computer. When I mentioned this to him, he said that he used to have the same problems that I was experiencing but then he discovered using a dedicated server. He said by using a dedicated server, he was not only guaranteed the best performance and speeds, but the dedicated server also had an excellent customer service line to help with any problems that he encountered along the way. Overall, he was thrilled with his service, and I know how impressed I was, so when I got home I got online at http://www.alentus.com/dedicated-hosting/server.asp and got in touch with their customer service department. They were able to set me up with a package that was right for me. Well, since having my new system installed I can't believe the difference. My internet connection was always available and the speed was incredible. Now I can save a few hours a day, and get the things I need to get done, faster and much more efficiently. The truth is that time really is money. I am now able to get the most out of my internet connection and get my work done in about half the time. This definitely frees up more time for me to do my school work and get some extra play time. I am so glad for the weekend at Tom's place, if it weren't for him, I would have never believed that getting a good solid internet connection was possible for me. It is amazing how one visit to a friend's house can change everything, at least that is what happened to me.

Diet pills are all the rage

Today, diet pills are common. It is rare for someone to not have a friend or family member or even themselves taking diet pills. People used to take much more caution when talking these over the counter supplements, but now they are so common that people sometimes even take more than one at a time. I think that when they were new or at least before they were really popular, people worried a lot about the side effects or what would happen to them, but now with so much experience and everyone we know taking them, I'd be surprised if you looked in someone's home and didn't see a bottle of diet pills of some sort. They are advertised non-stop now and if you read the newspaper, magazines or watch television, you are sure to come across an advertisement for a diet pill of some sort.

Ephedra diet pills are something that I have just recently learned more about. I have heard that they work on people who do not choose to exercise. I have always thought that diet pills were supposed to be used as a supplement (an addition to) diet and exercise and those they were part of the complete plan. But I am hearing more and more that these diet pills, like the ephedra diet pills just melt the fat off.

I used to be really weary about diet pills in general, more afraid than doubting them because they are over the counter drugs and I feel like people tend not to consult their doctors when it is something that you can just pop in and buy, especially when it is being advertised by celebrities, and even being able to order them through the television and online. But now, after knowing so many people who have taken them and been fine and even lost weight using them, I feel like maybe that is a step that I might be willing to take. Although I will still probably consult my doctor before taking them, I feel like with diet and exercise, diet pills might help me to lose those 10-15 pounds that I am looking for. I no longer feel like taking diet pills are like cheating, if you really think about it, diet pills are like studying your notes before a test, they just enhance and boost what you already know and are doing (dieting and exercise).

Internet Research Could Save your Life

Now a days everyone uses the internet. My grandparents email me constantly (they thought that if they didn't learn how to email and use the web that we wouldn't find time to contact them and keep in touch). But it is amazing how much time people spend online looking things up (it makes me wonder if public libraries, at least the book part of the libraries) are seeing a decline) on the internet. I looked at my computer history to see everything that I have looked at n the past week and it included everything from checking my mail, bank statements, weather, map questing directions to visit my friend at school this weekend, looking into grad schools and researching a new fad diet. All of these things I thought about and then went straight to the internet knowing that I would find everything that I needed to know in one stop. Using the internet for research though can help you save a lot and in some cases it could even end up saving your life.

Looking into home alarm systems online and being able to compare and contrast each one saves you time, money and could eventually save your life. On websites like securitysystemspro.com and alarmsystemstore.com you are able to look at different products and compare them to see which fits into your lifestyle the best. You can click on each alarm system and read about all of the features it has to offer as well as comparing prices and finding where to get each one. You can learn more about each single system individually and become more familiar and narrow down your options before having to go in a talk to someone or have a consult in your home. This can really help to save you on time.

Researching security systems on websites like homesecurityguys.org can help you to get more information on technical support for your alarm system once you have chosen one or maybe to learn more about the product when it is in your home or it something were to go wrong.

Having these resources is extremely valuable. A lot of people think that the internet and technology have made things less personal (and that is undoubtedly true) but it also is convenient and could be a life saver to have the information at the tips or your finger or the click of a mouse.

Party Planning

When I went home for fall break last weekend my little sister who is ten was telling me about how she is having a Halloween party at our house and inviting all of her friends. So over the weekend my dad took her to the store to get party supplies. She came home with so much stuff; I couldn't believe she convinced my dad into buying it all for her.

When I was younger I always had a themed birthday party, and I also had a yearly Valentine's Day party but for the most part that was it. One of my other friends always had a really good Halloween party that everyone went to all throughout grade school. I remember how we would always compete for the best theme at our birthday parties. Like the month before our birthday we would start planning out every little detail, it would drive our parent's nuts, they would have to drive us around everywhere and make or order all of the food and help us decorate and send out invitations. We always said we were the ones that planned it, but really our parents did it all.

We had some pretty great themes though. Roller-skating parties used to be a big deal in sixth and seventh grade and there was a part where they would turn the lights off and turn the black lights on and we would all have glow sticks that we skated around with. Then in our party favors at the end it would have glow necklaces in them, which we thought were so cool when we were 12 years old.

When I really think about it college and grade school aren't that different. Sure, the beverages served at the party (and probably the things that happen after the party) are a little bit different, but people are still planning themed parties and competing to have the best bash. I went to a luau party at the beginning of the school year and it was great. It was thrown by a frat that is down the street from my house and it was so cool. They had a bonfire and everyone wore grass skirts or swimsuits and my friends and I wore flowers in our hair. The atmosphere is so much better when there is a theme to the party I have found. It seems like people are more relaxed when they are dressed like everyone else and playing along with the theme.

Searching for shade structures California

Our church is building a kids play area right on the back property of the church. The design has been all laid out and it is going to be an incredible play area. There is even a grown up sitting area under the one tree that we have in the back. Well, we all met last night to review the plans and someone raised the question about how hot all the equipment was going to get being constantly exposed to the sun. We didn't want the kids to get burned, as happened at one play area just recently. Then another woman chimed in asking about having the kids playing in sun's direct rays and suggesting that perhaps we should consider installing a canopy or something over the kids play area to combat both of these problems. The head of the committee pulled out her laptop and began searching for shade structures California, and she found some incredible canopies, but when she searched under shade canopy california, we all were in agreement that these structures were a little too big and heavy to use over this type of area. Then someone suggested doing a search for shade sails california, and sure enough, shade sails looked like they would be perfect. I had never heard of a shade sail before, however, they looked really nice, and they were lightweight enough that we could order them online without paying an arm and a leg on the shipping of it. They said that they were good at blocking out the suns UV rays, and yet they seemed to not block the sun completely which was really great. The price was really reasonable and so we just had to get approval from the treasurer to spend the additional monies for the shade sail. I think it is a worth while investment to insure that the kids don't get hurt because the equipment is too hot, and also that they don't have skin issues in the future. Keeping kids safe can take a lot of work, but it is nice to know that there are companies like this that can help you do it for a reasonable fee.

FINDING THE OLD KA-BAR AT GRANDDADDY'S HOUSE

Recently when my grandfather passed away, we had to go and clean out his house, which was a horrible thing to have to do. I felt like I was invading his space, even though he was no longer alive it felt a little too personal to go through all his belongings. Because I felt this way, my mother left me to go through the attic, I felt a little bit better about this, because I knew that he has stuff in the attic packed up from a younger day, things that he felt were important enough to save, but yet it wasn't quite like going through his underwear drawer. I started going through the boxes and found old letters and photos, it was really quite an adventure. I found an old knife in one of the boxes and although it was old, it did recognize that it was a Ka-Bar. A Ka-Bar was a hunting knife that was developed in 1898 and later in World War II it was used by service men to fight hand to hand combat. I knew what it was, and when I went downstairs I asked my mother if she would mind if I kept it. She said it really didn't matter to her, since she was only going to be able to keep so much of grandaddy's stuff anyway, I may as well take what I want. Well, when I got home after a long day of rummaging through my grandfather's house, I went online to look up information about the knife I had found. After a while of not being able to find the same exact one, I got frustrated and gave up, but I still was curious because I wanted to find out what this bowie like knife was really worth, and when it was made. Finally, I just decided to take it for an appraisal, and I found out that it was not from WWII as I had first thought, it was actually an original Ka-Bar which was made in 1899. The guy asked me if I wanted to sell it, but I said no. He offered me $2000 for it, but I told him that it was my grandfather's and no amount of money could get that knife out of my possession. At least now I know it is worth something, so I will definitely get it insured and put it in some type of display case.

A Cup of Tea a Day Keeps the Doctor Away

My roommate swears by tea. When we moved in, she was the first one here and her shelf in the kitchen pantry was stocked with wholesale tea that her mom had bought her. She said it was supposed to last her the whole semester so that's why they had bought so much in bulk, but that much tea would seriously last me a lifetime, and probably have some left over.

She drinks white tea every single day, and the worst part is that she leaves the bags all over our house. When she drinks it before class in the morning, she is running all over the house, so who knows where you'll find her tea bag. Sometimes I'll wake up in the morning and she'll already be gone and ill find her white tea bag in the bathroom. It really does gross me out (and our other roommates), but it doesn't seem to faze her at all.

I do however have to thank her tea habit a little for making me feel better a few weeks ago when I had a cold. Even though the herbal tea that she says cures everything did not get rid of my cold at all, it really did help to make me throat feel better and that put me in a much better mood than I had been in for the past few days. She makes herbal tea sound like it could cure cancer though. She says that it keeps you from getting colds and losing your voice and that it can even prevent you from getting the flu. She goes around preaching to people about how much better their lives would be if they drank more tea. The funny thing is that when I got sick, it was her that I caught my cold from. And having it only be the middle of October, she has been sick a lot, probably about 3 or 4 times this year so far. But I guess if it made me feel better for a little while and took away my pain, then I have no right to make fun of her. But seriously, if there was a tea club or group, Kayla would be the president of it.

I guess everyone has little flaws or bad habits, and especially having roommates is hard, but I guess her bad habits could be worse than leaving tea bags out.

taking advantage of debt counseling

Many people are worried about their jobs, but I bet if you are in the field of Debt Counseling, then you are not worried about job security. With the stock market plummeting, the cost of everything rising, and very little hope on the horizon, more and more people will need to turn to a debt counselor for assistance in managing their finances and paying off bills. I have not personally used their services, however, I do know many people who have gone in for debt counseling and say that the services they provided really helped them straighten out their credit. I don't really know if getting your credit straight will be any help right now, after all, all we keep hearing is how the credit industry is not handing out any more money. I personally don't really know whether this is true or not. I do know that if you are in debt, then you really do need to get the creditors off your back and come up with a reasonable repayment plan so that you don't go bankrupt. Most credit counseling companies will help you consolidate your debt and will set up a monthly payment plan that you can afford. They can also help you work out a budget, which quite honestly is the reason that most people don't have any money. Learning to budget is an important skill that needs to be learned by anyone who is handling money, even if it is just for your family's money. Getting your credit straight now can really help you out in the future. The economy will bounce back, and when it does you want to be on a secure financial footing. You also need financial counseling to help you find places that you can save money. The more money that you can put aside with the tightening economy, the better off you will be. It is really time to get your debts paid off, avoid using your credit cards, and bring yourself and your family to a more financially secure place. This will be the only way to survive this economic downturn.

HIGH SPEED INTERNET ACTUALLY SAVES YOU MONEY

Originally I was reluctant to pay a little more for a faster internet connection and I really didn't think that there was going to be much of a difference. My husband kept pushing me, telling me that our dial up connection was way too slow and at the time we were running a business online and to him it seemed like a worthwhile investment. I shopped around for high speed internet and found a good deal on DSL service from my current company. It only wound up costing me about $15.00 per month extra, but the differences between DSL and dial up were incredible. About a year later, we moved to a more rural area and the DSL service I was using was no longer available. My husband was unwilling to switch back to dial up, so we tried cable high speed internet which worked really well also. I loved being able to hop on my computer and access the pages I wanted in an instant. Now whenever I am forced into using a computer that uses only dial up service I go crazy. It is really annoying to wait for what seems like hours for just one page to come up. I don't think that when that was all we had, that I really noticed it was that slow, but I am sure it was. I wouldn't trade my high speed connection for anything in the world. Getting online and being able to instantly access whatever page I need quickly saves me time. Time is money, so therefore if you are looking for a way to cut back in this tough economy, be sure that you don't cut out your high speed internet. In the long run, getting rid of this, will wind up costing you more in the long run, especially if you use your internet often like I do. There is no better investment than a good connection for your internet server, after all, you can use this to bring up sale ads, check out the local paper online, even get access to online coupons. Shopping is also great on the internet as you can shop for the deals on sites like Ebay, and you can bid at the last minute and not have to wonder if your bid is going to go through before the auction ends. In the long run, having a high speed connection saves you money, so be careful where you cut back.

Furniture For College

When my three roommates and I decided to live together this year we went searching for the ‘dream' house (well as dreamy as you can get for college students living in Muncie, Indiana). After a few houses we found one that we loved. There was a full basement (with enough room to house at least 3 folding tables for beer pong and a ton of guests), a big living room, a deck for tanning and 4 really big bedrooms. The only problem was our kitchen. Although it was huge, the layout of the room left us no space for a real kitchen table since there was a bar like counter. So we decided to sign the lease and figure it out later.

So after signing the lease in November of 2007, we forgot about house hunting and all of our responsibilities associated until about June, a month before we were going to move in. We realized we still hadn't come to a conclusion about the table. I knew I was in charge of the couch and my other roommates had divided up other furniture among themselves, but we still had to find bar stools or counter stools for the kitchen and basement. So when I was shopping at home before I came I looked for something for our kitchen that would look cute, more like counter stools than something you would be sitting on to drink a margarita. I found a few cute ones but our counter in the kitchen was an awkward height, so most of the stools I had looked at were too tall and the ones that seemed to fit made us look like midgets when we sat on them. So we opted to get a cuter kitchen table for our gigantic living room and to tell the truth, I was kind of nervous thinking that it would look really tacky, however it looks great and it gives us a lot of room to move around still (we even occasionally have beer pong up in there, and it fits with our TV., couch and the table with plenty of room to spare.

The basement however was much easier to find bar stools for. We found really cute black ones that were actually not too expensive for our bar and the swiveled and had black cushions and silver around them which matched our decorations down there! I think next year though when we are looking for furniture we will start a lot earlier and try to measure better, because when you live in a another state, it is hard to remember or picture the room if you have only seen it a couple of times and to find furniture that fits and looks good.

Pet spaying and neutering

If you are considering getting a pet, please be sure that you can afford to take on this responsibility. You can get a pet relatively cheaply, but pet ownership can become very costly over the long haul. Most people consider the cost of taking the pet for a check up and the costs, but many people don't think about the cost of spaying and neutering their pet. There are some places that will do this at a discounted fee, just to insure that the world does not become overpopulated with cats and dogs because then these animals need to be destroyed. This is a sad fact there are tons of animals destroyed each year because there are no homes for them. Perfectly good loving animals destroyed just because no one wants to take care of them. This is not however, the only reason to spay and neuter. Believe it or not it is actually healthier for the animal to be spayed or neutered. Many animals have problems with their reproductive organs and having them removed can actually provide them with a longer and healthier existence.

Other costs to consider when getting a pet are the costs of providing an outdoor area for them to run. Some people prefer pens, but I feel that a big open yard is really the best way to go. You can accomplish this by fencing in the area or by using an electric fence. The only problem with the latter, is the issue that even though your pet will stay on your property, other animals can enter the area and then leave again and your pet can not fairly defend itself. Also, keep in mind when purchasing or adopting a pet, that sometimes pet expenses can be as much as human medical expenses. If you have a pet who is sickly or becomes ill, it can be a very costly venture to get them the care they need.

I am not trying to discourage pet ownership. I love animals and think that everyone should have a few pets around. They are excellent companions, are great friends to the elderly and children, and can give you a reason to get outside and move. Keep in mind however, that owning a pet is a lifetime commitment. Don't take the decision lightly. Research and find the perfect pet for your living situation and be sure that you can live up to your responsibility, that little creature is counting on you.

natural diet pills

Losing weight is a struggle for millions of American's primarily because of our sedentary lifestyle and our poor eating habits. In this country many people suffer from heart disease, high blood pressure, high cholesterol and diabetes, mostly due to the lack of nutrients in our diets and the fact that we spend so much time sitting around. So what can we as a country do. First and foremost, try to get some real food into your diet. Many people will complain that they don't have the time to watch their diets, however what could be easier than toting around some fresh fruits and vegetables to snack on? And walking instead of taking the elevator or escalator. What about walking on a tread mill while watching your favorite TV show? Did you know that some people have actually installed treadmills instead of chairs at their desks so they can walk while working on the computer or taking a phone call? Sometimes you have to be creative, but it doesn't mean that it is impossible to get yourself back in shape. Also there are many nutritional supplements and natural diet pills on the market if you find that you are having trouble controlling your appetite. Also, experts say that the key is eating many small meals (almost like snacks) all throughout the day. They say that this method helps keep your metabolism moving and keeps you burning fat and calories all day long. There are many little steps that you can take to get your weight back under control and keep it there. Using these steps in combination with one another can make for a great way to find balance and increase your fitness level. Let's face it we all want to stay around as long as we can, whether you are young and wanting to start your life, or older and hoping to stay around a while to see the great grand kids. Fitness is a concern in all walks of life, for every sex, creed, race and nationality, we all have one thing in common, we want to get and stay healthy and what better way to do that then to exercise, eat right, and take some natural diet pills to supplement. We can do it if we are just willing to retrain our brains to think healthy.

stethoscope

I just finished my first paper of the semester and can I just say that I am already feeling the semester pinching me. I am already starting to lose sleep over things and I haven't even gotten to those weeks where I will be doing more papers in three days that I have all year. I hope that something fun happens soon because I just need to blow off some steam for once so far.

My first paper deserves some discussion now that I have myself out of the way. This was for my modern medicine class and basically it was supposed to be a research paper about the development of any medical technology that we chose. I chose to look at the stethoscope since I have also been doing my EMS training these past few weeks and I have one lying across the room as we speak.

I looked in to the beginnings and the modern developments of the classic stethoscope. I found that Mr. Littman designed the original Littmann stethoscopes when he was at Harvard as a professor and researcher. He was designing these items for use in his work in cardiology. Cardiology stethoscopes soon came to be a big business for his after he the patent. Eventually the company was bought by the company 3M which still sells them to this day. They bought the company in 1967 and they are still the largest producer of stethoscopes to this day. Now that we have been completely immersed in the technological age, the design has moved to the electronic arena. Though the designs are still being worked out in terms of sound quality, I wouldn't be surprised if they became the norm quite soon.

I hope that you all found some kind of interest in this. I really had a lot of fun researching this because I also took a look way back at the very earliest histories of the design which were basically just conical tubes that had a bell at one end and was pressed to the chest. Now the design from Littmann has found its place as a modern staple of the medical community in this country and beyond.

technology trends

Sometimes the news can be very interesting, but sometimes a bit troubling. I enjoy hearing about the latest technology trends but sometimes I find that the world is just becoming too advanced. Don't get me wrong, when I first heard about pbx technology that was exciting news. PBX technology is great news for those who are in big business, this is like voip except on a better larger scale to service businesses that have much more advanced phone services than anything you or I could even imagine. Now they can get the same great service and a nice low price and all in a business phone service. It is really wonderful news. I remember at the inception of voip reading the voip telephony news and getting really excited about it. I know that sounds silly but I had been struggling for years to bring down the cost of my home phone. I had switched companies and switched plans and it seemed no matter what I did, short of disconnecting it all together, I couldn't get that bill down past about seventy bucks a month. Well, I must have been one of the first customers at this company, because as soon as I read about this great new phone technology I was in. I have been actually happy about paying my phone bill every month. Anytime I can pay a bill for less than twenty a month I am really happy to pay it.

Anyway, back to what I was originally saying about technology. I don't find phone technology scary, but some of the science and medical technology leaves me a bit uneasy. I just wonder how far science has really come. Have you ever noticed that you hear little blurbs about stuff in the news, then like magic it vanishes and you never hear about it again. Like for instance, I heard this one story about cloning and scientists being able to clone animals and people, and then I never heard another word about it again. I always wonder if the government says, wait a minute, you can't tell them about that. That is all I can imagine, the government tells the media to put a sock in it and they do. Best I can tell, there are way too many things that we don't know and that I find a little bit unnerving.

Texas health insurance

A lot had been going lately, so I decided it was time for a change in my life. The most logical thing to do at this point in time was to pack up my stuff and move to a new state. I had 3 choices: Texas, Florida, or Georgia. Florida had beautiful weather but is hurricane prone. Texas is super hot but I have family in Texas so I'd be able to adjust relatively easily. Georgia has good universities, especially the historically black universities.

Unable to make a decision completely on my own, I called my mom for advice. She had been the one who had influence me to move in the first place, citing that the change would do me some good. “Who offers the best health insurance?” she asked when I looked for advice. Health insurance? Was she serious?

“I don't think there's much of a difference between Texas health insurance, Georgia health insurance, and Florida health insurance, Mom,” I replied to her. I could hardly see what health insurance had to do with anything.

“You get sick easily, don't you? You want to be wherever you get the best health insurance coverage, because if you don't you'll end up getting very sick with nowhere to go.”

She had a point. I get sick very very easily because my immune system is weak. My previous year would have been pure torture if I didn't have insurance. I honestly caught every virus, bacteria, and illness that went around campus. I'd only started avoiding sicknesses when I began taking Vitamin C, and even then I would still catch a cold or two. People even started staying away from me, especially when they were sick, because they knew just how quickly I caught illnesses.

I hadn't even bothered to look for health care plans because, well, who does that? But I looked up a few plans anyway, deciding that I had nothing to lose. Turns out the school I wanted to go to in Georgia offered a health insurance plan as part of tuition, which meant I wouldn't have to worry about paying for it out of pocket.

I called my mom back to tell her what I'd found, and she sounded really excited. I'm not going to base this life-changing decision on some health insurance. Thought it's good to have that in mind, it's nowhere near enough to influence me this greatly.

I just hope this doesn't come back to bite me later.

Ontario auto insurance

I have never been to Canada, which seems strange because I have been to places much further than that and so many people I know have. One of my friends when I was in grade school had another home there (I think his dad traveled back and forth for his job). Last year Ball States football team played in a bowl in Canada, but I was on vacation so I couldn't go. I wonder though if it is a lot like here, since we are so close. It is weird to think that a location so close could be different from ours. I was looking online to find out a little more about it when I came across a website about The Financial Services Commission of Ontario and I clicked on it to see what it was all about. The website gives a ton of information for the consumers like Ontario health insurance quotes and what to do after an accident if you have Ontario auto insurance. This website seems like it is not only very useful for current residents, but also a learning tool for those that don't know very much about Canada and its policies but would like to get a better understanding. Some of the topics other than auto and health insurance include credit unions, banking and information about mortgages and financial and other institutions.

In one of my classes we are doing a project where we have to plan out our future careers and choose and home and cars and basically our whole lives and insure them and pretend it's real and make a budget and so on. But the only options we had were to live in the United States. I think it would be interesting it the project was expanded to living anywhere in the world. That way we would be able to learn more about other cultures and governments and their policies and how they compare and contrast to ours. It is inevitable that someone taking personal financial planning 110 at Ball State University will one day live outside of this country. It would interesting and beneficial for us to learn about mortgages and interest rates and taxes not only here in the united states (which is extremely important) but also in other countries where we could potentially decide to reside one day or at least maybe vacation for a long period of time. It can't hurt to know as much as possible.

eco friendly blog

One of my good friends and I were talking last night about blogging and I would like to bring you guys and gals in on the conversation. We have both been blogging for a long time and we really enjoy the freedoms allowed by blogging when it comes to what you choose to write about. It is also nice how much freedom you can afford to those who choose to respond to your posts. If you want to you can choose to create a blog designed to be a kind of message board, or you can choose one like mine where you lovely readers come and hear my thoughts without much chance for recourse. I am not uninterested n your thoughts, I just have a lot to say and little time to pour over what others have to say. Those who really have something to say to me will contact me directly.

My friend does the same thing and he runs an eco-friendly blog at www.mind-body-planet.com. His blog is all about health, wellness, and ecologically conscious products. We were talking mostly about those before mentioned items, but we also thoughts that we should both drop some plugs for our friends who runs blogs elsewhere online. The first is one of my buddies who runs an online gambling blog at www.mygamblingthoughts.com. Here he basically can give some thoughts and strategies on various gaming techniques and styles. Then the other plug is for one of his friends who writes at technology blog at www.technologicalthoughts.com. At this site my friend discusses the newest technologies and actually last week he was talking about the newest gaming systems which I thought was interesting since I haven't played video games in like ten years.

Anyway, I guess that I wanted to write this today because I don't know a better place to gab about my love of blogs other than on my own blog so I hope that you guys and gals can share in the love and make your own blogs some time soon so we can all share in the groove. Happy blogging and happy fall semester.

rehab blog

I just discovered something interesting today while surfing the web that I had never noticed before. You know how there are lots of people now who are getting in to blogging and things like that, obviously since you are reading mine. Anyway, as with my little blog here where I talk about just about anything I can think of to share with you all, there are others out there who are also talking about anything and everything. There even other people on this very network who choose to sort of specialize, unlike my self, in some very specific topic and really stick to theme for their blog. Today I was looking and found an education blog, rehab blog, and a home improvement blog right here on our own server. These are obviously students who are very interested in their areas of study to the point where they feel the need to bring us all in as much as possible with their expertise.

Online there are tons of people doing the same things. Experts and amateurs in all areas of thought are speaking and sharing ideas in attempts to get ahead through this wonderful thing that we call the internet. When I did my looking just yesterday I had already found those within our own network so I was inspired in my searching. I found three sites that are very similar to those in our own server which are just from a different perceptive from ours. They are at the sites www.educationthoughts.com, www.drugaddictionthoughts.com, www.homeimprovementthoughts.com if you want to check them out and let them know that I'm giving them some props for their hard work. That is what this is all about I believe. Now if you all go and check out their stuff and post then we can have a nice dialogue between us and then draw our sites and readers all closer together. If any of you are so inspired to create you own blog space out there or already have one going, please let me know and I can try to mention you here and bring you in to my little circle and make it that much bigger.

California alcohol rehab

A friend of mine went away to college in LA and I think that he has really gone over the edge. He was raised in a very strict household with parents who were very religious and they really kept a tight hold on him when he was growing up. He wasn't allowed to do anything growing up. He was not allowed to have or even attend parties. He couldn't even go to a school dance. He was not allowed to date. His life was a little bit too restricted if you ask me. When he got accepted to a college he couldn't wait to get out on his own. He knew he would be able to make his own choices and do things his way and it was a very exciting time for him. Well, I spoke to him a few times and I knew that he was partying way more than he was studying. It sounded like drugs and alcohol were consuming his life. I spoke to him about this but he didn't listen. One night he was at a party and apparently had been drinking everything and anything he could get his hands on and using blow which only made matters worse when he decided to take a ride over to his girlfriend's house and ran a red light. He killed two people that night and needless to say he was arrested for driving under the influence and for 2 counts of vehicular manslaughter. It seems that he must have had a really good attorney and since he had a clean record they sentenced him to 2 years in a California alcohol rehab followed by another stint in mens rehab in California for a grand total of 4 years. He will go through both treatment programs one for alcohol abuse and one for the cocaine use and then they will re-evaluate his progress to determine if further treatment is necessary. The saddest part is that he still has not told his parents about his situation, and I am not really sure he ever will. I just can't imagine being in this type of situation and not being able to tell your parents, but he is truly afraid that they are going to disown him, and I don't think that he could deal with that right now.

He calls me pretty regularly to talk, and I am doing my best to try and provide him with some much needed counsel. I am just glad that he is finally getting some much needed help.

promotional gifts

Running your own business can take a lot more work than people realize. As a small business owner, I want to make the most out of my business, but getting our name out there and our business off the ground has been a daunting task. I guess when I was first starting out, I thought that if I had a good product and a reasonable price, I would have a successful business, but it requires much more than that. Running my own business has found me in charge of everything from the actual running of the business, to being my own accountant, advertiser and sales person. I never realized how much of my time and money was actually going to have to go into making a success out of a good idea. Well, finally it is starting to pay off, however finding a way to get the most for my money has not been easy.

The actual running of the business has been going pretty smoothly and I am finally getting the hang of the book keeping, but I am still working on getting my business name out there. I live in a small community, and in talking to one of my customers, he suggested promotional gifts. He explained to me that I could give gifts, like coffee mugs, t-shirts and umbrellas to my customers for free with my company logo and phone number printed right on them. He said by doing this I would improve my customer retention (everyone likes to get something for free) and I would get free advertising for the merchandise price. People would carry around my items and other people would see my company name everywhere. I told him I really did not have a lot of money to invest in it, and he told me about a site online where I could get small items, even just pens that would do the same thing for me. He said it was really a lot more reasonable than I would think, and its purpose was 2 fold. He said he tried it with his business and found an extreme increase in business in about a month or so.

Well, he was right and the site he told me about had some really neat items. I can't wait to start giving the stuff away. It will be so much easier than me having to go out on the off hours and try to drag in some business.

water damage restoration

Water damage restoration is the worst. A week or two ago we had a really bad thunder storm. The electricity went out and a tree fell on our fence, and the rain was terrible. Luckily our basement was fine and no water got in, but the day after the thunder storm I went to two of my friend's houses and both of them had really bad water damage in their really nice basements. My friend Dan's family had to have their carpet ripped up in almost all of the rooms in the basement (I think their exercise room was the only one left with carpet, but even that was fanned down and smelled really bad) and a lot of their furnished had to be taken in to be restored from the water damage. Their video games that were on the bottom shelf of their entertainment center all got ruined including their complete system, which is worth hundreds, probably even thousands of dollars. It is such a pain in the butt when something like this happens and your basement floods. Their pool table had to be restored as well and they had a jukebox that got ruined. It's sad because a lot of their storage was also in the basement in a closet and pictures from their childhood were soaked and ruined.

My other friend Jenn, who lives about 2 blocks away from Dan had pretty much the same things happen to her, but thankfully most of their valuable stuff was up higher. They had to take out a lot of their carpeting as well (which can get to be really expensive) and the bottoms of their entertainment center and shelves had to be professionally fixed. Several years ago this happened to us and we had to tear apart our basement after we had just gotten everything put in. My parents were so upset because we had just moved there and installed carpeting and bought new furniture and put a really cool bar in, and then s thunderstorm came and flooded the whole basement and everything had to be ripped out and we had to deal the basement and start all over again.

Water damage is the worst kind of damage that can happen really. Not only are things wet, but they smell after a day or two which makes your whole house smell and if it isn't fixed properly it can get moldy and eventually make people sick.
