The <s>Ron Paul</s> Libertarian Revolution

A gentleman on Facebook comments, “I’m not here to bash anyone who does support him, I don’t, but it seems like every ron
paul [sic] supporter that I encounter sounds like they didn’t start breathing or thinking until they heard him. They just
talk about how amazing he is, and sound like he’s their god.”
The thing is, there are many great defenders of Liberty out there. Some are dead now, some are still alive. Great names
like John Locke, Thomas Jefferson, Henry David Thoreau, Lysander Spooner, Murray Rothbard, and Harry Browne pop to mind—
all of whom are dead now. There are some great people who are still alive, too, such as Mary Ruwart and James Lark.
Dr. Paul isn’t necessarily any better in my mind than these other persons. In fact, compared to some of them, Dr. Paul is
relatively flawed.
The point really isn’t about Ron Paul at all. The Ron Paul Revolution is really misnamed—it’s the Libertarian Revolution
that’s at hand.
Ron Paul is inspirational to many of us because he proves something: he proves that one can go into Congress and not lose
one’s ideals, not sell-out. It’s often said that good people should stay out of politics, because politics will corrupt
them—but Dr. Paul proves by example that good people, and good goals, have a shot in this world. For twenty (un-
consecutive) years, he’s been standing up to Big Government from the floor of the House, voting against bills that no one
else has the balls to vote against.
This is inspirational.
But, even Ron Paul will admit that this isn’t about him. Ron Paul was just lucky to be the one who was at the right place
at the right time. This movement has been growing for the past seven decades, thanks to the hard work of people like
Leonard Read, Ayn Rand, and Murray Rothbard. Now, we’re rising up and showing our strength, using the Ron Paul campaign
as our spring-board.
It’s not, thus, about the man at all. No doubt he’s an inspiration to us, but this movement is about something deeper:
Liberty. So even if Ron Paul loses, even if Ron Paul dies, we will still be here. We know our ideas hold sway, and the
time is right for a non-violent revolution for Liberty.
