Plutonium
-----Kennedy Seaborg discovered Plutonium in 1940. Plutonium was first used in
World War II while developing an atmoic bomb, code name the Manhatten Project.
It was also used in the Apollo Lunar missions to power instruments. Plutonium,
while it is naturally occurring in small quantities, can be synthesized by
bombarding Uranium-238 with deuterons that are acelerated by a Cyclotron.
-----The basic principle behind an atomic bomb is a sphere of plutonium
surrounded with chemical explosives that are detonated at the same time
compressing the sphere of plutonium which then explodes with the force of 20,000
tons of TNT.
