The purpose of this online research portfolio is to show my online work dealing with educational issues.  My portfolio shows evidence of my ability to research, gather, evaluate and communicate information.  This website also demonstrates my advanced use of online information resources to meet needs for collaboration, research, productivity and  publication.  It allows me to show my talents using technology, as well as my ideas and thoughts on certain educational issues in today's society.

This online research portfolio was created for the ISTC 201 class, Using Information Effectively in Education, at Towson University.

Abstract

Gender Equity:  A research paper submitted as a requirement for Using Information Effectively in Education (ISTC 201).

This paper discusses the issue of gender equity in education.  There are many aspects discussed including the subjects both males and females are drawn to, as well as which subjects society views as male/female dominated.  Statistics are used to prove the smaller gap between the males and females in certain subject areas, and also the way that females are now excelling in areas before seen as male oriented.  Also discussed is the way teachers treat children differently due to their sex, and the way they sometimes unintentionally favor males over females.  There are certain views on this subject area that favor the different treatment because of the different needs of the students; yet, both sides are supported with sufficient evidence.
