HCC's Learning Communities
If your a high school senior and are looking at HCC, there are several learning communities that might be right for you through the.
- The first program is the Silas Craft Collegians Program, which I was part of. This program is geared towards incomming Freshman whose past academic performance doesn't necesarily reflect their trun potential. The Silas Craft Program is a comprehensive adademic programthat provides a learning community which icludes skills assesment and development, tutoring, advising, peer mentors, faculty mentors, and freinds and prepares you for a smooth transition into a 4-year college. One bonus is that the adivising office comes to the Silas Craft seminar class and personally advises you there.
- The second program is the Rouse Scholars Program, which is a selective honors program designed for transferring to nationally known 4-year colleges.
- The last program for seniors is the Freshman Focus Program, which is designed for high school seniors who plan to be freshmen at HCC, but don't fit into one of the two programs above. This program helps with advising and registering.
The bonus with all of the programs listed above is that you receive priority when registering for classes!
- Howard Community College is also commited to serving students with disabilities and Project Access is a program that will help those student's get a jump start in college. This program helps students with the transition from high school to college and other post secondary opportunities. The goals of Project Access are to improve student's potential for successful post secondary experiences, to accommodate diverse learning styles in a range of academic settings, and to transfer the student's accommodations to the employment setting.
